There could be a million reasons why its on there and without the PO owner telling you all would be speculation. I understand you asking why but unless its causing a problem, stop pulling your hair out and drive it.

It's not a problem and even saved me some money on lifting it... just bothers me

It went bad previously and the shop doing the repairs had one on the shelf so thats what they installed it.

There's your answer.

Pulled to steering box from a lifted rig and didn't swap pitman arms.
