Default Still Rubbing

I recently added 1.5'' spacers to my front to prevent me from rubbing when I turn. For the most part, it helped. But when I'm at my maxing out my turns, it still rubs, and sounds violent. It appears it's just that thick plastic piece, which I'm wondering if I cut it more if that will stop.. As you can see in the picture, I already trimmed a bit. I turned my wheel fully and had very, very little room between the tire and the metal frame (that was already trimmed). Should I trim some more? I have a wheeling trip coming up soon.

I went from 31s to 33s, but ended up getting 33x12.5, which is my issue. The thick plastic piece there, is that needed? Can I cut it some more?

Thanks

that piece of plastic is the first thing that goes when i build my xjs.

behind that there is a pinch seam that most people usually hammer down flat to clear their tires.

mine kept rubbing too, we trimmed the plastic and the cut the metal back a little too. Someone told me to get smaller tires too, that was not the advise I wanted. I just bumped up, not going backwards. If in Texas, bigger is better.

Getting smaller tires doesn't sound fun! I'll look into trimming and hammering that area out then and hope for the best!

Thanks!

Yep. That plastic inner fender is in the garbage long ago. I also have 33x12.5 on a 4.5 and dont rub while turning. If your wheeling trip is to Badlands or Cliffs, pm me when you go.

I took mine out and cut part of it to cover the gap going back to the door inside the fender. Really helpful when wheeling with the doors off.

So, bit of an update, and a question. I had to remove my spacers, due to ignorance and forgetting to keep them tight and almost losing a wheel.. heh. My question is, should I adjust the steering stops to prevent rubbing at full turn?

I came across this: http://liftyourxj.com/tweaks.html#SteeringStops and I never adjusted them when adding my 33x12.50s. Could it help?

Honestly, I hate to say this, but I don't know. The rims came with the XJ. Here's a pic if it helps, but if the BS is different on the same type of rims, then I'm not sure.

I remember there being a way with measuring, but I for the life of me can't remember. FWIW, I rubbed at max turn radius on my 31x10.50s. But that was before I trimmed and everything.

Yeah most steel wheels come in a variety of b.s. I dont know enough to tell you what those are from looking at them? If it were me I would pick up a different set of wheels before limiting the turning, not being rude but plaine steel wheels like that are not really expensive. I have seen alot of them around 80 a piece new and I think 4 wheel parts is running a special right now where its buy 3 get one free and I think maybe even free shipping. You could probably get by with that tire for the spare and buy a new set with the proper back space.
