I'm wondering what are the most basic and essential tools to start collecting and adding up to keep in my jeep for when I go wheeling.
Thanks

Sets of tools are always nice. Always good to have a certain sized bit or socket. I also found it useful to just accumulate random tools and such. Never know what you might need. Oh, and you can never go wrong with a BFH.

Just start with normal mechanics tool set get a hammer and screw drivers and a 36mm socket and when you need something you don't have add it when you get home so you'll have it for next time

Metric sockets both short and deep, shouldn't need anything higher than a 21mm. That and torx bits will do just about everything on your Jeep.

If you can afford it get a decent compressor, impact sockets, impact, air wrench, air hammer, grinder.

Don't go cheap on the sockets and wrenches. Craftman sucks now and I'm not a big fan of Husky. If you don't want to spend the money on commercial grade go with Kobalt. They're manufactured by the same company that manufactures Matco and they carry a great warranty.

tools I use the most are
metric sockets
screw drivers
ratcheting metric wrench set! comes in handy so often
various hammers
cut off wheel, grinder, etc.

any of those would be an awesome start
other good jeep tools I've used are impact gun, ball joint press, pitman arm puller, SNAP RING PLIERS, various air ratchets with extensions, needle nose pliers. ahh so many tools

PB blaster is a waste of money. 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone works a hell of a lot better and it's much cheaper.

How old of a set is it? If you can find old Craftsmans tools they're well worth the money, but their new stuff is garbage. The sockets are ok but the wrenches are really prone to breaking and their warranty isn't what it used to be.

I wish they were still good tools. I grew up with Craftsman and used to swear by them. Had a huge set and old Craftsman toolbox that got stolen a few years back. Wish I could catch the ******* that got em.

Aug last year they reduced a lot of the warranties from lifetime to 25 years, power tools to one year, dropped it entirely on some tools, and a lot of tools they won't just swap out in store no questions asked like they used to. They'll send them off to be repaired, offer repair kits, ect.

Sears has been going under for years and so has Kmart, it's a matter of time before they're gone and the warranty won't matter.

Kobalts warranty on the other hand is what Sears used to carry and it even covers stolen tools. Only thing I don't like about it is you have to go to their website and register the tools in your name now.
