It does separate, but you can just shake it and it mixes again.
You do want to keep it off bushings, your gas tank, and brakes though. Acetone has a really low flash point and ignites easy and it can weaken bushings and plastic (like a gas tank). You can leave it on them while working, but you'll want to hit it with brake cleaner or something when you're done just to be safe. Especially brakes, I've sparked acetone just from friction from breaker bars. Sounds more dangerous than it is by far, but you don't wanna be stupid about it. Works wayyyy better than any penetrating oil out there though.
