when i start my jeep it sounds like its gunna come through the floor!
Ive replaced the flywheel and the starter
what could cause it to sound so bad???
could it be the fact i dont have a straight pipe and not enough back pressure??

Go here and download the 88 or 90 factory service manual. Then you can go through the tables in the FSM to diagnose your problem.

Why? Was the starter failing to turn the motor over?
What does "it" sound like? Where is the sound coming from?
You aren't very discriptive of your issue.
Does the truck start? How about we start from the logical beginning and tell us exactly what your having trouble with.

Wow! What floor is your Jeep gonna come through?
Why? Was the starter failing to turn the motor over?
What does "it" sound like? Where is the sound coming from?
Back pressure does NOTHING. Unless you've got a 4" pipe from manifold back, you aren't hurting anything but the ozone.

and yea back pressure does have something to do with it just for the shere fact of it has straight exhaust and thee are holes in the down pipe that i just discovered...when i put my friends muffler on it it made it sound a little bit better
other than that i think the plate between the bell housing and the motor is preventing it from making full contact with the flywheel!
Im not a mechanical dumby....i know this jeep and every bolt it has...this is just one thing that has got me at a stump...and i dont have much time to troubleshoot everything right now thats why i asked the question on here to see if anyone has delt with this situation before!!!
In other words...im going through starters like most ppl go through toilet paper!!!!

Just because you have holes doesn't mean there is a problem. If you've got your manifold and solid exhaust up to the first o2 sensor, you're exhaust has nothing to do with how your truck is running. If you don't believe me, start a thread asking about it, and see what happens.
Just because it sounds better when you have a muffler on doesn't mean its running better or solved your problem. You have a straight pipe, its loud, and sounds like its just confusing you as to what the real problem is.

Ask yourself what connection the exhaust and starter have. You should logically come to the conclusion that they have nothing to do with each other.
I'm guessing the problem is the shims for the starter. You may have too many or not enough causing the teeth to mesh improperly with the flywheel.

Here, maybe this thread will help you better understand every nut and bolt on your Jeep. Or at least how exhaust works.
Try the link in post #10.

Stop getting all hung up on back pressure and put the muffler back on. One loud 4x4 with a young kid driving fast makes all of us look bad in the public's eye.

However, I still feel there is no correlation with the exhaust and the issue of his starter sounding like "its going to come through the floor."
Two very different problems.

i dont have a muffler at this time but its on the way!
I figured out that the exhaust is not mounted up properly so it isnt getting the right back pressure...easy fix...and the plate between the flywheel and motor is what is keeping the teeth from meshing together so im gunna cut around where the starter goes on the plate and see if that will fix it if not then ill just put it back together...
sorry for being a jerk fellas its been a bad week for this guy! the old lady cheated and i guess i took it out on yall...my bad!!!
i guess my jeep will be my old lady from now on!!!lol

Keep you head up, bro. Around this time last year the lady I was seein informed me she was preggo with another guy's baby.
Now I'm married to the woman I've been dating since 21007 and have known since the 2nd grade. And I couldn't be happier. (and I know she's a good one, she drives a Jeep, wants a lift, and has waited for me since we graduated high school)
You just never know what could happen!
