Default Spindal

I replaced my calipers and rotors on sunday and noticed what the pads hang on(on the top...the pads are notched and hang on the spindal) is all ground down....where the pads hang. Anybody know what that is? Is it the spindal. By the pitures on line it doesnt look like it would be the spindal.....

If your referring to the large Allen bolt, that the calipers slide on. I don't believe that's the correct name. And no, it should not have accessive ware there. Once brakes are depressed, and released. the pads should release just enough for rotor to spin. So there's really not much movement. Unless the piston is not engaging. (moving), or loosing fluid behind it. possible check valve, or leak.

i know for a fact i have seen a replacement sleeve that you just slide on, but i cant find it right now. if you have access to a welder, i would weld over the grooves and grind it smooth. unless you get a brand new knuckle, most of the used ones will have the same problem.

Cool

I have a pair of knuckles from my Grand Cherokee, there exactly the same as what you have. Mine are from a 95, and are in good shape. If you need them email me getlostrockracing@yahoo.com One thing you can look for is the "sleeve" that slides over that part of the knuckle. It's a "sacrificial" piece. I don't have any of those, but they should be pretty easy to find at a junk yard. You can weld on them, but being iron it will be more of a hassle then it's worth IMO.
