Lifting a XJ is pretty easy. If you can identify all the tools in a basic tool box you can do it. First lift I did was 2" BB with a bastard pack, took 12 hours. Last lift I did 3.5" took about 6 hours, including changing all the TRE's and the alignment. Of course acctuall work will depend on the Lift you plan to do. If you stay under 3.5" it will be alot easier than anything higher. But you need to plan for issues. first step is penetrat on the bolt, PB Blaster. Soak all bolts, daily, for about a week prior to the job. Set aside 2-3 days, if lucky you can wheel it on Day 3. Have 2 jacks, 1 floor jack and a bottle type, stock jack is perfect. 2 jack stand, 4 is better. 1 helper is nice but not requires. 1 or 2 ratchet straps. Finally a Good basic tool set SAE and Metric, a torque wrench, and a pipe wrench, a hammer or two, and if over 21, some Beer. The beer is optional and used for frustration control, not for getting drunk.

its not that hard at all. i just turned 20, and have been wrenching for the last 4 years, and it is literally just removing bolts, then puting the same bolts back on with a new part attached. (a little more in fepth than that, but you get the general dea). Just have the right tools, some bricks and a couple jacks.

First off welcome to the addiction, er forum.
Depending on whether or not your jeep grew up in the mitten determines the complexity of lifting said rig.

Having the right tools is half the job, maybe more.

Only advice I can give you is go for it! TAKE YOUR TIME and make sure you have a secondary means of transportation if something goes wrong. I helped a buddy on his and we stripped a bolt head in our stupidity, took a couple of days for the dealership to get one it.

It's awesome being able to say you lifted your own rig. Just allow plenty of time for it and try to get a couple of buddies to help you, those extra hands can work magic.
