As if municipal codes aren't bad enough...

I flatly refuse to live in an area with an HOA. If they try to start one up in a neighbourhood I'm in, I tell them it's going to have a hole in it. I refuse to be told what to do by some ersatz busybodies, and I'm damned sure not going to pay them for the privilege of doing so! (Last time I checked, someone who was telling me what to do or not do was paying me to do or not do it. So, the HOA can pay me if they want to tell me what to do - and I'm not cheap.)

I've had to do apartment blocks and a trailer park - and those were bad enough. Asswittery from the city is bad enough (I figure anywhere between a third and half of the municipal codes we're saddled with can be rescinded out of hand, with no ill effect whatever.

(Yeah, the city loses "fine income." If you plan your budget with a line item for expected fines incoming, you're doing something wrong - fix it. You've probably got too many people on the City payroll - which is an easy fix.)

But an HOA? I flatly and totally refuse to deal with them. I won't move into anywhere that has them, and I'm not about to let one form that involves me (I'll fight it, I'll tell them they have to make a hole in it, and I won't pay them if I was there first. They'll just have to deal with that fact.)

Home Owners Association i think

theyre just a bunch of ****** who want to be in control of something...
my ex next door neighbor used was an FBI guy, ex swat sniper, marine sniper etc, he was redoing his front yard to sell his home, they had the guts to tell him, to put it back the way it was AFTER he was halfway done with it. He told them to shove off pretty much, and threatened to erect a HAM radio tower in his front yard just to **** them off since they have no say over it what so ever.

They also get on us, because the tree's THEY gave us, drop leaves, and if we dont pick them up, they get annoyed.

Random question, what kind of authority does the HOA have on you as a property owner (if you own it). What gives them the right to dictate what you can and cant do on YOUR own property?

I rented a 12x30 storage unit for a month. Worked great! Cost me like 80 bucks if I remember right.

They get the right when you move in and the make you sign the agreement or else don't buy that house. From my past experiences they have the power to annoy the hell out of you and depending on how stronge the assoc. is they can fine you

In Oregon - yeah. Here in SV, a 10X20 box will run you something like $300/mo.

Yeah, that is what I thought too. Just where is SV? Want to make sure I don't try to rent a house there.

I want to give my 96 XJ a sex change to 4wd...

GREAT, right?

Except, I live in an area with an HOA, and my garage cannot accommodate an immobile parts-jeep for any period longer than a day.

So sad right now. I thought I was gonna' get away with getting everything I needed for my switch to 4wd in one painless swoop, Tranny, T-Case, axles, driveshafts. But, alas, it is not to be.

I am already in danger of a nasty-gram from the HOA for beginning to spraybomb my XJ in the driveway, and leaving it two colors through the process. LOL.
Had the same issue ( I hate my hoa). Rent a storage unit, cheap and no one cares what you do. At least they didn't when I tore down my old BMW. I used all hand tools though.sorry didn't read all the way. Round up some friends and go all a$$ holes and elbows on that thing, 3-4 hrs tops. Don't let them beat you down. I told our president if he wanted to pay for all my repairs I would gladly stop. Never heard a word back. As long as it's not all Sanford and son, they can't really do any thing. Best thing to do is bone up on local zoning laws. Hoa and zoning laws way different.

I've got an HOA as well, but thankfully they're pretty lenient. Plus, they don't patrol, looking at all the yards/houses. If the neighbors are cool with it I tend to be alright. Hate to hear yours is being so pissy.
