Oh he'll yeah! Every time I go gave a bonfire with my buddy's. I have a nice backpacking tent that I don't want to tear up when drunk so I just put a foam pad down and a blanket and call in a night. I'm 5'6" and fit pretty good on an angle. My Spare is on the roof rack so I have some more room in back. Easiest camping I have ever done!

i'm 6'4 and I used to sleep in thae back of my 95 Grand when I had it. the XJ seems to be about the same size in the back. I plan on doing it when ever I get to go on my next camping trip.

Default Sleeping in the xj

About 20 yrs ago when we had our '92 XJ I made a camping "bed" on PVC stilts. With the older ones you had to take the bottom of the back seat out to fold down the back portion --- the newer ones like my 2000 you do not.
I think I made it out of 5/8 plywood -- it would hinge at the front for sleeping and also out the back if needed. We would move the front seats all the way to the front and flip the hinge and place the stilts under for sleeping. If it was not raining, we would also flip the back hinge to give us (me) some more leg room and we also had a homemade "tent" that attached to the top of the lift gate with velcro.
The only real hassle was making all the stilts and making sure the platform was reasonably level. All the camping gear would fit underneath and we would keep two wetgear bags on top of the roof with clothes and anything lightweight that we did not need everyday.
I kept it when we sold the old XJ and I will be trying to see if it will fit the
2000 XJ sometime next week ??? The only issue will be adjusting any stilts to fit -- that reminds me. WHAT THE H____ DID I DO WITH THE STILTS ???

I am 6'2" and it gets tight in there with the girlfriend or wife.

Ive done it a good bit. Be sure to park in the shade so when the sun rises in the morning you arent cooked alive. Ive got the dark interior color and i would just wake up too hot to go back to sleep haha

Yes!! It's great!

For valentines day I took my girlfriend on an overnight camping trip in the woods next to a river and I had bunch of padding underneath a nice red blanket and red pillows and 2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts!!

Also a bonus +++ my leaf springs are so rigid it didn't Rock to much at all!

I lived in mine on and off for 2 months last summer. im 6'2" and for me sleeping corner to corner in the back with the seats down did not cut it, 1 night is ok but my neck was really sore after the first week back there (no padding).. over time I tried sleeping straight up in the 2 front seats and in the back seat.. for more than just one night at a time I couldnt stand it....

towards the end of my time living in it a hefty amount of vodka and some other encouragement from friends got me to throw the sleeping bag onto the roof, the racks when set far apart propped my feet and head up in an oddly comfortable way and without padding I slept up there for almost a week straight in july (it was hot out) and I think it was the most comfortable place on my jeep to sleep... be warned I have a dent that wont pop out lol

im looking for a hammock for camping now and a small tent for colder night

Hehe my girlfriend made the same joke that night!;]

Haha she seriously did too!

But nah, it was comfy just us! I'm sure if anybody wants to sleep a night or two in their jeep they won't have problems unless they are 7 feet talk... Most people curl onto their sides anyways...

I slept good! I have slept back there more than once, just crack the windows and let natures noises let you drift into sleep!

Where I go there are always too many mosquitos.. So try bringing some tiki torch looking things that keep the skeeters away!

I wish I could have had my hatch and windows open... But I didn't want to wake up to a thousand mosquito bites... It got pretty warm...

Lately after lunch, I have been taking naps in the back of my non running 97 that is parked on the shady side of my car port. So far my wife has not found me.

Every time I got to URE I just pull the bottom section of the back seat and use it as a pillow, comfortable as anything I've ever slept in. Only thing is I wasn't prepared with any padding or covers, so i froze my *** off the first night, second night I just ran the heater on full blast for about 10 minutes and that helped a lot
