Safety and Emergency Preparedness when working on your Jeep
I'm interested in what safety measures folks use when working on their Jeeps..
What if there is an emergency?
I always have my cell phone on me.
Fire extinguisher handy.
First aid kit .
Hand towels that are clean.
Container of cayenne pepper to stop heavy bleeding.
What else?

Direct pressure to stop heavy bleeding. Your finger/fingers is the best way to stop bleeding.
Don't put cayenne pepper, tobacco, alcohol, mayonnaise, sawdust or anything else on a bleeding wound to stop it. Use Direct Pressure. Use tourniquets very carefully.

Why not cayenne pepper?

I've used it successfully numerous times with great benefit and no side effects/problems. It doesn't even burn!!

I'm a competitive shooter so I keep a gunshot wound kit in all my vehicles. Tourniquet, combat gauze, Israeli bandages, chest seals, etc.
Training on how to use that stuff is more important than the stuff itself, but you can build a kit for about $70.

Anywhere I go, I have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs and NO cayenne pepper. And any finger or thumb can stop the bleeding.

One of my hands looks like that after I pulled a radiator hose on a race car to pull the head between rounds, had on Mechanics Gloves, thought the cap had drained all pressure. Not had caught on the lip and when hose clamp was pulled hot water everywhere. My hand was the worse burnt but face got some also had on safety glass's.
Burns don't heal very well when you wait till a job is done then cut off glove with skin in it, and look at hand. In a hurry and that never works out well.

hmm good post. I just tend to use more PPE than anything. safety glasses, gloves, etc. Firm believer in safety glasses after having to have metal shavings removed from my eye. That's not fun ladies and gentlemen. I also found using the right tool cuts down on accidents lol. Like, screwdrivers aren't pry bars. And if you are using a pry bar and it looks like it can slip, it's going to slip. Broke the tip of my finger and lost a fingernail that way. Ouch... Also, don't pull towards yourself unless you are willing to test your own knockout power against yourself

I have a pipefitting company. One of the first things we teach our fitters is to NOT pull a wrench towards your face. Seems basic; I've had more than one face injury from a wrench and even a concussion
