Rough Country support thread
this is to explain where alot of negative comes from about Rough Country as well as to give you some insight and history behind the company.
1) 8 plus years ago product sucked, quality sucked well just everything about Rough Country pretty much sucked.
As many many would not know, Rough Country has been around for about 30 plus years however it was owned by another company on the west coast. When Heckethorne Off-Road bought the name in mid 90's they also bought thousands and thousands of inventory. That inventory sucked, it was awful and rode like crap. About this time came the boom of the internet and with so came public forums. Yes it was bad so yes people bought it and complained to anyone that would listen, and people did.
Jump ahead to 2001 Rough Country hires its first R&D engineer and started to mfg better quality kits for the newer vehicles and jeeps. (the birth of the original x series lifts) now we are at 2005 and after only a few kits were released and some sub-par we realized we needed a new engineer. Gave a few guys some chances and no one could deliver what we were looking for. 2007 we open our new R&D shop and purchase all new state of the art equipment and finally someone over the shop that was good at was he does. (remember we live in a town of 28k population with nothing around so finding good help is almost impossible) We have over the past 3 to 4 years really came out with some great products as well as went back to some of our older stuff and redesigned them to get them up to par.
2) I truly believe there is more negative PR then alot of other companies is pure volume. When there is more product out there, there is going to be more people to complain. The funny thing is we here at RC HQ hear very little about all these so called problems and feel alot of it is bandwagon haters from back when we should of been hated on haha.
I am always here if anyone feels the need to complain or simply ask a question as well as to make sales and clean up our name. For those that go onto Naxja you will see that I did the same there and I have helped numerous jeepers out with whatever I could.
anyways thanks for this I know its a long thread but I appreciate you taking the time to read it.
I would like to use this thread for any comments good or bad that way I can help those in need and thank those who praise

My girlfriend has a RC lift in her wrangler and we were iffy on buying it due to the poor response on some forums. But shes had it for a while now and still loves it. no problems so far. I will buy rough country when i get the money to put my lift in my jeep. My girlfriends only complaint was that the shocks didn't say "rough country" on them hahahaha!

Had my 3" on for a year or so, no complaints here! Especially for what I paid for it. JcWhitney mis-advertised, haha.

i have heard some bad things, but i've also heard bad things about rusty's products and i have never had a problem, with the product or costumer service... i have to say, reading this and a couple of your other posts on here has helped me make up my mind on where i will be getting my lift components from now on. rough county products are less expensive then other comparable kits sometimes by a couple hundred bucks, and for somebody that is always on a budget thats a big deal. its nice to know that your on here to back up your products and help out anyway you can, you'll be hearing from me in the (hopefully near) future.

tell her she needed to put the stickers on lol. I like my kit, my friend installed one on his z71 1500 as well at the same time this past January, and neither of us had any problems, I also have the CAD kit which was quite simple to install, and ride with my sticker for support around town haha.

iv ran RC products for almost every part they make the only part iv ever had problems with (and iv had many probelms with this part) is there trac bar. everything else iv run from them iv had little to no problems with, and come spring ill be installing there long arm kit which i dont expect any problems from. they have very good customer support and are a good company to work with. i highly suggest them.

I have the 6.5 L/A kit and it works great but it's kind of limited on travel. And it made me wonder whats up with the shocks.
I know it has more to go if I disconnect the shocks but riding with out them would really suck lol
Not saying anything bad or bashing on the product. I think they make a good product but the shocks seem like they were meant for a 4.5 lift

Guess I'll be the negative one here. Installed the new long arm kit (6.5") on a buddys XJ. Caved in the crossmember and was told it was due to misuse. I have come down a lot harder on my stock one and it's fine. Looking at the welds on it I was a little leary anyway. He is now running a home built kit with the RC springs.
Dan I think you need to measure the shocks because my short arm with RC drop brackets (I know I bash them and still run some of their stuff) flexes a ton more than that.

I have had mine since the beginning of the summer and so far so good. The only complaint I have is even brand new one of the heim joints was cracked and rusted already.

I received a tie rod upgrade with the lock nuts missing. Emailed customer service 3 times about it, never got a reply and gave up. Have since been turning all my RC parts into scrap.

I have yet to have a single problem with my RC 4.5" short arm kit. Ordered it from grimus and installed it my self about a year ago and have been very impressed with the performance of the springs on and off road, I haven't seen anything better. The shocks aren't to brag about, but that goes for every kit I've seen that didn't have bilstiens included. I can say that I am very, very happy I went full leaf packs instead of add a leafs. I absolutely love this lift and can't wait to add a long arm to it.

I had one problem with my rc lift(caused by not checking to make sure trac bar was tight). i called up RC and they sent me a new tie rod end for free. got here within 4 days and has been great since. couldn't have been happier with customer service. I wheel my jeep pretty hard and it has been awesome!!!! Just ordered their brand new shocks too
