I considered this for a little while but couldn't get past how I would use it. Unless your 7 feet tall reaching into anything up there on a lifted Jeep seems well... a little out of reach.

Just like the idea of a lockable box outside the jeep, that can carry my recovery kit .so if anybody has any ideas for short cargo boxes that sit inside a roof cargo basket without protruding too much from the top then please let me know

If you absolutely need one, just buy something you like and make your own mount, or weld it

You could make some kinda tool box work,But to me i wouldn't do it.It would be a big sign saying here is tools please steal my stuff.I keep all my recovery gear in a gym bag besides the shovel and ax.A lot of recovery ropes you can buy a carring bag for thats not that big.

You can take any storage box you like and make some mounts for it that are easy to remove later.Or even 2 or 4 holes and some small bolts should keep it in place.

You could drill holes in the bottom of the box, mount studs, then use a long piece of steel under the roof rack to keep it in place

That way it's removable with a few bolts and you don't need to unload the box

I fit a box of sockets, box of wrenches, and a full tool bag under one front seat. The space is about 13" x 18" x 7". Under rear seat is another excellent location.

I made a roof rack to fit these Rigid tool boxes found at Home Depot for $40 each. "Pelican" quality, IMO. Waterproof and lockable. I use ratchet straps to hold them in place. The same could be done on a larger roof rack, or use bolts inside to secure it to a larger roof rack.

Thanks. I do have some spare room, but I wanted to maximize storage to keep as much as possible out of the cabin, and to make sure I had everything I could possibly need if stuck in the Middle of Nowhere.
