Roof basket
I'm thinking about putting a roof basket on my xj. I'm not sure what to buy but I don't wanna spend a Ton of money on it. I was looking on eBay and I found best choice products roof basket. It looks nice. Just wanna know your opinions on what to get.

I bought a surco soon after I got my xj figuring i'd use it for camping or hauling stuff. I removed it a few months later having never used it.

This one's pretty good.

It comes with hardware that tightens down to the factory roof rack.
In the event that you ever want to remove it, you can just loosen it and take it off. You'll also be able to put it back on easily. No drilling required.

If all you're using it for is spare tire and hilift you'll probably hate it.
@Veeb0rg:
I bought my rack and used it probably a dozen times the first year I had it. Loved my roof rack, it'll be the first mod I do to my next Jeep.

Get one off Craigslist I wouldn't spend over 100 unless you're a boss. I got a 300$ sucro one for 70 ducks last week. Just wait for a deal to pop up in your area. I would say sucro is one of the best but my opinion may be bias.

Mine is a BVG basket, which apparently got bought out by Thule. I got it off a Craigslist. It was on a Tahoe that got totaled so I got it for cheap. I use U-Bolts with wing nuts to hold it onto the factory roof rack. Recently added a Hi-Lift on the side and might add some lights in the future.

You'll feel it up there. The extra drag is definitely noticeable, and therefore, worse gas milage. If I were you, I'd invest in a rear bumper tire carrier that you could also mount the hi-lift to.

Here's my opinion. I had to buy a roof rack/basket for my spare tire and jack as well. I also get terrible gas mileage. I know I could have mounted it on the rear but I'm just not a big fan personally. So what I decided is having a spare and working jack is not something one can go without so that's how I bit the gas mileage bullet. To help out with gas ill be re gearing the rear end and putting in 784 fuel injectors (you would need 703s). So I went with the basket. Got a good deal on a valley industries basket from CL. It mounted to the factory rails so what I did was drilled right into the side and dropped a bolt into the rail, Works for me. Others may not be interested in that idea but it is an option!
