Weld in 2x6 instead. Doubles as a slider.

really looks like this

then add some 2x6x3/16

Size: 62.7 KB

Put some angle to the unibody to carry the backside of the 2x

plug weld some 1x1/8" strap through top of sill to 2x, this provides a nice clean surface to weld to and reinforces the sheetmetal sill

If you plan on using the sliders for lift points or anything more than mall crawling the 2x should be tied into the unibody. Use 2x4 for more of a stock look.

Hope this helps, and if your going to go through the trouble might as well beff it right up. Do it right and do it once.

That's all great, but not everyone can weld.

The OP stated " looking to redo my rocker panels on my car there rusted to hell" so he's going to have to have some provision of fastening the new rockers in place. I'm sure he's not planning on using bubble gum so, think about it........or STFU!!

If he can't weld, he'll need to take his XJ to a shop, or someone that can. Depending on where he lives, the labor rates could become more than he's willing/able to pay for a job equal to what you've done.

Your work was nice. Maybe it will give someone an idea or two, sure. Thank you for sharing. I was simply stating it may not be a logical choice given his caliper of skill with a welder, or how much money is in his pocket.

On that note, not everyone who finds this thread will have some talent with a welder. Such as myself. The title "rocker panel" is completely unanimous.

So... Who thought this through again before opening their mouths?

Wow really buddy? He says HE is wanting to replace his rockers. So one would think he welds or has a buddy who welds.
Again think before you post.
