That part that's off is called a bumpstop, it stops you're suspension from over flexing, and to be honest, that "rust" is nothing lmao, I'd say you're safe.
You should see pretty much any vehicle in my area, lol that thing looks new in comparison.
Wonder what your opinion on my xj would be lol!

So does anybody still have their bump stops or have they all fallen off like mine. The 1/2" bolts broke when I tried to remove them so they will have to be drilled out if I decide to replace this one. Question is; do I even need them?
Sorry you guys have so much rust to deal with. I guess I'm just not used to it down here in Houston. I'm trying to get it under control and replace any critical parts. Anything that might cause me to get stranded in the wilds.
This is going to be my daily driver as well as my desert vehicle. This may be my last truck so I'm being careful with it. I did a lot of research and landed on the Cherokee as my best choice. I got my first Jeep in 1971, a '49 ****** Jeepster, followed by a '77 Wagoneer.
Lately, I do some 4x4 driving in the Chihuahuan Desert on the Texas/Mexico border. I go solo so I can't afford a breakdown. There is no cell coverage and some areas are too remote to walk out of. My life could depend on this Cherokee. I know this is nothing like rock crawling. It's more of a survival test for this old man.
Thanks for the help!
