Why do same year Wranglers resale for so much more than Cherokee's?
95 - 01 Wranglers fetch about 6-10K but I'd rather have my Cherokee because it rides better, has less road noise, seats more people, has more cargo space, and gets better mileage.

The same reason Fox Mustangs sell for more than similar year fox Thunderbirds and Cougars, even though they all share the same chassis but T-Birds and Cougars are far more refined: People want 'em. Probably because they're perceived as "sportier"...

I think the difference used to be a lot worse before Cash for Clunkers. But yeah it is pretty ridiculous. I mean stock some may argue that the wrangler is sportier because it has a removable top so I guess that might be why.

My dad has a 98 wrangler stock with 100,000 and it goes for more than my 01 cherokee with 60,000 and mines got more fun stuff. I just did the search the wranglers kbb'd at 7,200 and my xj is 6,000. wtf mines way better than his!

One is a convertible with removable doors and top that people associate with fun (see comercials) and the other is a station wagon. I know it hurts to hear those last two words but that's what we drive. The first few were called WAGONeers. But I'm not complaining about the price difference. I have both and wheel a cherokee and love the fact it cost less. Keep it a secret so we can afford them in the future. Next time you see a wrangler on the trail tell them how cold your AC is or how warm the heater is depending on season. Makes them mad every time. Plus you can have a nice radio in a cherokee and park it without as many worries of it being there when you come back.

I just picked up my 98 cherokee a few months back for $2000 with 137,000 miles from its original owner. The guy even gave me a folder with all the documents for everything that was ever done to the vehicle from the very first to the very last oil change and a few repairs. I couldn't be happier with the fact that I could buy a jeep for so little money. I guess if I had purchased a new cherokee and had to take the depriciation hit I wouldn't be so happy. I've had a wrangler, it was stolen. The cherokee is more practical.

I used to have a 1978 Dodge Ramcharger, but with the top off you still had the front door hoops sticking up. I do miss that truck though.
Gotta say, XJ sure does look like a station wagon. But to truly qualify, it would need fold up seats in the back.

I have both. When the temp is 65 to 85 and not raining you can't beat a wrangler with the top off. But any other time I am driving the XJ.
My XJ is a 91 in great condition. Might be able to get $1,500 if I was lucky.
My 92 Wrangler is not in as good shape as the XJ I could probably get $3,500 to $4,000 out of it.

its an image deal. always will be. vette, mustang, wrangler, anything with a hemi, they all have high resale even though they share tons of stuff with other like vehicles that are cheaper.
i wonder if my title still says wagon on it. my 85 trooper2 said wagon in the vehicle type because back in the day, the term suv had not been created yet. since my cherokee is an 87, i wonder if it says wagon or suv
