Resale value: Cherokees vs. Wranglers
x2 on the insurance! the funnier thing is when i was looking for a jeep to fit a kid's seat into after the TJ had to go i found u could get a WJ for LESS then an cherokee of an older year. it might be a regional thing but i got a pretty killer deal on my wj with about 85K on it for the same price as a cherokee with alot more miles! couldn't figure that one out either. i thought it would be the other way around because of the added features and 'luxury' of the WJ.

well wrangler's popularity comes from the army's designation GP, which i think created the term jeep and it was sold to public as a CJ, which looks exactly like a wrangler.
the same reason a '92 H1 is more expensive than a '05 H2. the same reason why people that haven't served a day in their lives think that they look good in BDU or ACU camo colors. it's the image. a while back some guy told me that he only drives a real jeep (he was driving a wrangler), and he tried to argue with me that his "dealership built" TJ has a 258. i argued that it has a 242, but he said i don't know anything about jeeps. after i proved my point, i told him that if he ever wants a real jeep, he should build one, not buy one out of a showroom, and that only then he will know the advantages of an XJ over a TJ. not too long ago he bought an XJ. he calls me up from time to time now to ask questions about upgrades and repairs on his rig.
