You said d rings but what about tow hooks? Maybe I'm confused but is that what your referring to when you said metal hooks?

nope. Tow hooks are attached to the vehicle. the metal hooks being referred to are on the ends of ropes/straps. These are always a bad idea and a loop style rope/strap should be used.

Yes, with the right accessories it can be used as a come along.

Because the thread states recovery kit, and a tow hook is attached to your Cherokee and is part of the vehicle, not part of a kit.

Is it just me, or is that first pic 96 XJ posted have some scary moments going on? You got cables going different directions and a guy standing in the middle of them.

I didn't see anyone say jumper cables.

Yeh, I picked up on the guy trying to lose a leg too. Thanks for all the inputs. I need to put a recovery kit together for the Ice Breaker. My first time out, I'll probably need the straps.

Luckily, I've only seen a hook take out a sunroof, rather than a person

The last 2 are taken from the trails about 5 miles from my house. Alot of good examples of winch use during the yearly chili challenge. alot of poor examples when Rec riders get out there....
