So over the past few weeks, I have been learning what I need to have in my cargo area. I'm working on getting a high lift and other goodies, but what do y'all think about these ramp things smittybilt makes?

I'd like to get some, but would it be cheaper to make something on my own? Any plans out there?

I don't wheel at all yet, but I've been playing in the snow a lot lately. This area is mostly flat. I'll be at the beach a lot so mostly sand will be my off road area.

Maybe a land anchor (pull pal/smittybuilt W.A.S.P) and a winch. Use it to winch to more solid ground. Not much else you can do when burried in sand. Those ramps will help you if you don't stop to pick them back up . They work great in mudholes. I just know from my experience that the key to deep sand is speed. Stopping then taking off again is usually when I get stuck.

Used up snowmobile treads. You can find them on Craigslist sometimes, depending on where you live.

It couldn't hurt to have them and never need them then wish you had them.

Best thing I've found for sand is the same thing I use on snow. Air down! I've never gotten stuck in sand when aired down to single digits.
So I would recommend some form of on board air. So you would be able to air up after you finish playing in the sand.

I just installed my OBA yesterday so that's taken care of. I just wanted to know what would be good if I goofed up. I installed it just for the reason of being able to air up right after and not drive back home getting crap mileage

Lol I occasionally drive around for the week at 12psi, Usually when I don't have time to stop by discount, or I dont wanna freeze my *** off airing up myself

Be careful how much you air down your tires standard rims about 15psi. is the min. you can go without the tire coming off the rim some tires are 17psi. My 33x12:50x15's on reg. rims 15 psi is my lowest. On my 35's using beadlocks I can run single digit and be OK.


The reason you air back up as soon as your done wheeling isn't fuel mileage its safety the steering is affected in a very negative way at any speed over trail speeds.

Ie ran my tires at 8 psi before when I got in a bad situation. Long story short, my jeep became a rock bouncer for a short period of time. I swore I was gonna pop a bead, but nope. Got out scratched and with my rear bumper damn near ripped off. But no popped beads

I'm running black steel rims without beadlocks and I have ran them at 2 psi in the snow, so single digits on sand should be no problem if you are running radial tires and not bias plys.
This is for sand! not rocks. As for 15psi for a 4000lb rig that is way to much air unless you are talking about bias ply tires.

Those Smittybuilt ramps are silly expensive, im sure you could find an alternative for a lot cheaper
