Default rear c&f sealing ?

i have read a bunch of cut and fold fender trimming and have 1 question.

when you cut and fold the rear what do you use to keep the folded pieces from folding back down?

will herculiner keep them up? because i am going to herculine the rear quarter panels and rockers

Just bent mine up and using a block of wood and a hammer and years later they're still there. It's two layers of sheet metal and once bent pretty much stays in place.

do you think herculiner would help seal it from mud and snow pulling on it when it gets in the wheel well

if you cut past the pinch weld, if you remove the interior trim you can seal the cuts with silicone.

in my opinion welding would be over kill. yes you could do it, but I trimmed the fenders on my wifes XJ years ago, and there has been no issues. check out this thread; https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/cu...r-flares-48847
and this one; https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/cu...r-flares-60530

depending on the year of your XJ this is how it's done!

to clarify when I said "cut past the pinch weld" I meant the slits for folding not, if you follow the fender line and cut them off. if you do that I'd absolutely weld them, that is structural.
