so im pretty confused about my rear axle. just bought this 2001 cherokee a few weeks ago. all the paper work that i got says that it has abs. i looked at the axle and noticed the rubber plug says dana so i assumed it was a dana 35. i ordered a lift and bought dana 35 u bolts. ubolts do not fit and bottom of axle has flat lip like crysler axle. basically i am wondering if 2001 cherokees with abs have crysler 8.25 axles. sorry for rambling but im pretty confused

As bad as this will sound go down the road and spike the breaks, if the squeal then they are not ABS, I think there is a way to check under the hood. Maybe your owners manual will tell you?
Here is some good info

Pop your hood.

Look for the abs pump *the black thing to the bottom right of the picture*
I'm pretty sure ABS only got the d35, so if you have an 8.25 either the axle has been swapped and abs disabled/converted or you don't have ABS.

Correct. ABS was only installed on the Dana 35 rear axle. If your Jeep has ABS and a Chryco 8.25 then that means that a previous owner had to replace the rear axle at some point. Most likely took it to a shop that simply swapped in the 8.25 from a junkyard and then raped them for the cost of rebuilding.

Well you dont have to be flying down the road, just be on dirt or gravel, and try to lock them up doing like 10-20 you'll know. I wasnt sure about the canister under the hood, thats why i posted the link. I think he has more than enough to get what he needs

Like I said - I am amazed that some people think locking it up is the best way to find out if your vehicle has ABS on it.
