Default quick catalytic converter question

Just a quick question I need answered. I have the california emmisions spec xj with the 3 cats. The two up front with all the sensors and the one underneath by itself with no sensors. Could I cut the third one with no sensors out? I know its bad to run no cat but if I have the two up front I should be good no? Its rattling like crazy so I want it gone. I dont really have the money for a new one so could I just cut it out?

Removal of the cat is against federal law, and talking about it on the forum is against the forum rules and generally frowned upon. Get a replacement.

Lmao... It's not against the law to remove if its broken... He says it's rattling meaning the catalyst is probably loose and/or broken on the inside.

Get a spun hi flow cat as a replacement (with or without o2 bung)... They are really cheap... Like $40 or so from mudfrog on this site.

It may not be illegal locally but it's always illegal federally.

it's a federal law that all catalytic converters are to be in place, if you remove one due to damage or wear you must replace it with a factory equivalent.

It doesn't matter if you remove one or all of them, it's a violation of federal law to remove, modify, or tamper with any factory installed emissions equipment.

JD Cravin and Michael952, you are both wrong.

Bwaahaha! Why would I be banned? For telling him to replace a non functioning cat with a functioning cat?? I'm NOT telling him to run without one, i'm telling him to get a better one and fix the problem.

Let me guess... One of you doomsayers works at a muffler shop or something along those lines right?
I once went to one for a cat repair and they wanted to charge me over $350 just for the labor " because it's against federal law to blah blah"... So I'm going to suck your wallet dry...I don't think so.

OK... To each their own. OP... Do what you will... I gave my.02¢

Nope. You'd get banned for telling him "It's not against the law to remove if its broken."

CF (and many other sites) forbid discussions about removing catalytic converters. Here is the specific catalytic converter rule and here is a link to the rest of them

Illegal Activity
5. Do not talk about illegal activity on this forum. This includes illegal drugs, parties, wheeling, internet use, etc. Violators of this rule will be dealt with on a case by case basis. This rule includes the discussion of removing catalytic convertors, this is illegal and not allowed to be discussed on this site.

Its a lot cheaper and easier to replace it then deal with the legal problems if caught with out it.If caught with out one can get your car impounded and a nice fine.
