Who would have thought my "throw away" question on rims and tires would have led to helping somebody's problem with a lift. I hope it fixes the issue....

SORRY for the steal C-N-P. Thought about suggesting a new thread but that's as far as it got. lol
I ran a set of Ford factory Turbine rims on a CJ5 for years. Still my favorite of the oem rims. Turbines with Falken Wildpeaks A/T 3W's would look and perform good on your '89. I figure 235's could be had for just over $100 a piece. 30/9.50's could give you lower control arm clearance issues.

No hi-jacking going on. We are all here to talk about Jeeps, & help each other out. Anytime I start a thread anybody is welcome to ask anything about anything.....sooner or later it will get back to topic and if not, who cares......haha.
The 235/75R15 BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains are $79 a piece right now. As soon as you go to 235/75R15 or 30x9.5/15 in BF Goodrich all terrains they jump to around $142 a tire. I would prefer the all terrains because they are more aggressive but I can only afford what I can....to be honest $79 sounds high right now......haha.
I am checking CL and local FB ads for a set of 235's or 30's and I don't see nothing.
But I am starting to lean more towards the turbines now rather than the 5 hole gamblers.....curse me.

There honestly isn't much of a size difference between 235/75R15s and 30x9.5x15s. In my experience, when a tire is measured in inches, it's smaller than advertised but metric sizes are pretty close.
That said, you should be able to find a decent amount of TJ/LJ takeoffs with 30x9.5x15 all terrains. I see these on Craigslist quite a bit and they're usually with 15X8 Ravines (if you're into having such a modern wheel on a "vintage" rig - the Turbines would definitely be more period-correct).

I know what you mean! The Falkens weren't my first choice but at $20 more a tire I couldn't afford what I wanted after redoing the suspension. I'm satisfied with the Falkens though.
With 235's on stock rims and under certain situations the front left tire would hit the LCA a bit. Whichever rim you go with check the backspace. My stock 15x7 steel rims were 5.25". I'm now at 4.25" BS on 15x7's with no issues at all.

Model: Cherokee (XJ)
I don't think Gamblers are 8" wide. I don't think any factory Cherokee rim is. I believe them to all be 7" wide. Except maybe the 60th Anniversary XJ ones. The 16" ones that are also found on the '98 5.9 Grand Cherokee. And I think those might be 7" too.
I want to say that all the ZJ rims are 7" The Canyons off a ZJ are different then the Canyons off a TJ cause of the width. I also believe that any rim on a TJ other then the steel rims would be 8".
That being said I can get behind the Turbines but the Gamblers (5 hole, 10 hole) or whatever they are called never appealed to me.
