Quality subs and amps: what to look for
What are some good quality subs and amps to look out for on craigslist. I want a single 10" or maybe 12" sub and want it to be bumpin pretty hard (no crappy amps). Thanks for any help!

I run an MTX 10" Marine, don't worry about it getting a little wet. JackHammer amp, lifetime warranty at the future shop. The combo works good nuf for girls I go out with (basically my wife and three daughters).

Buy new stuff. Best Buy always has subs on sale for cheap and a decent amp won't be that much money. Craigslist stuff can be a gamble and you will most likely not be happy with what you get.

MTX,Rockford Fosgate,Kicker,Hifonics and anything made from Zed.
I like that all these have been around for a while and are "Old School".
But any of these have different grade of subs and amps.
just find one thats best for you (price vs sound) and turn it up!!
I run a single 10" MTX 4500 sub
Rockford Fosgate Punch 225.2 amp (for sub)
Pioneer DEH-1500 Head Unit
Infinity Gold System (speakers and amp)

I was always taught to look at the efficiency rating of a sub, and buy by that. The sub I had in my Cobalt had an efficiency of 93db, and that was the hardest hitting sub I've had. But pick out your sub, and find an amp to match that. You can have a two good brand parts, and have them not match each other in any way, shape, or form, and sound like ****. I personally like JBL for speakers. I have two 6.5 3ways, and a 12 inch JBL sub, and they sound great together. But that was with a Pioneer amp and head unit it. I've also had an old school Rockford Fosgate sub and amp combo, which did good, but the JBL blew it out of the water.
What's your price range? You WILL spend more on the amp then the sub if you're smart.
