Honestly, this has got to be one of the dumbest things a person can do. Leaving mud on your engine and other under-the-hood components really puts a lot of strain on all of them. The mud holds in heat, quickens rust build up, turns rubber to shreds, and is a nightmare on electrical components. It's one thing if you go play in the mud then clean it up when you get home, but if you're leaving it like that, you're just asking for something to go bad. It's the same with tires, paint, and the underbody. Mud kills them all when it's left on. I'm all for having some fun in the mud, but as soon as I get home I'm spending the next couple hours cleaning it off.

Then I'm dumb or just plain lazy. Either way, thanks for playing.

I'm just saying that you're putting unnecessary strain on all your under-hood components by leaving the mud on there. 10 minutes with some 409 and a hose goes a long way towards keeping your rig running well.

In the military you shoot your rifle for 5 minutes you will spend the next hour cleaning it. Clean your engine's, they will last longer.
