Default Pre buying advice.

Hi.

I'm looking for a Cherokee for winter driving. Mostly city, and yes a 4x4 in the city of Montreal is a must. I'll also go sking on the weekends. I'm in Québec. I have a 1981 Suzuki GS1100E for summer riding which is a lot faster in the city. Maybe use it for camping up north where there are no paved roads. I'm not going to be off roading or rock climbing.

I read that some of these Jeeps engines run 400000km's and more. Is this true?

I see lots of Jeeps to sell that have about 150000Km. What should I be looking for or what should I watch out for? Any major problems that I will have to tackle. Known expensive issues? Rust prone parts?

Thank you in advance for your help.

ok to start off you should know this. Cherokees are great but you must take care of them

That being said, look for a cherokee thats been taken care of
Miles are not that big of deal, they are known to hit 200K or more miles

your number 1 issues for sure will be rust! Rockers, bottom of doors and the underside of floors are the typical rust spots

if you find one thats been taken care of and rust free....they are great

watch out for 2000 or 2001 cherokees, they have weak cylinder heads

The big two problems are rust in the floors and rocker panels its the metal under the doors,And previous owners doing bad repairs.Mileage i forget how many miles is in a km but 200k miles is normal for a jeep.We have a lot of members with 200k plus and still going.If.And look for a stock jeep no lift or big off road tires. If you get lucky and find one with a good repair history log buy it.
