Possibly purchasing Cherokee
This site and others. Youtube.com has a step by step video of everything.
They aren't THAT prone to cracking heads. It's just that the later models are more prone than others. As long as the cooling system is taken care of it'll be fine. If she's anything like my daughter, you'll have to keep an eye on it from time to time. My wife is the same way. I drive her Jeep to work every now and then to make sure everything is alright.

The Xj tends to sag in the rear suspension. This is the notorious leaf spring sag. Be sure to invest in a couple cans of pb blaster if you intend to do the leaf spring sag fixes yourself. Where the leaf spring bolts into the chassis (bushing is the eye) can be rusted together. Also, the top of the rear shocks have two bolts to the chassis. Those two bolts can also be rusted into the chassis. Spray down those mentioned components with pb blaster a couple days before and allow to soak in. Shouldn't have a problem.
