Default Police edition

I'm looking at a Cherokee The guy claims it's a police edition it's a 1999 and on the side it says Cherokee pro. The VIN number is 1J4FF68S5XL563257 but I can't find anything that says it's an actual police edition which supposedly had Dana 44s and a few other things. Anyone know how to verify if this was actually a police edition? I believe the police edition came with Dana 44's and this particular one has what appears to be a aftermarket Dana 44 cover on it. The vehicle starts but it won't seem to stay running as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator dies So I'm a little leerious to purchase it not knowing what's going on with it it could be something simple it could be something big. Any help on identifying whether or not it is a police edition would be helpful

I looked up the VIN here:

I had to change all your lower case letters to upper case. Assuming I did it right and am looking at your build sheet I don't see anything either.
Also I don't think any Jeep, Police Version or not, around '99 came with a Dana 44.
So the two big tell tale signs that I think you will always find are these. A rubber floor, no carpet, and an Ext Idle switch.
Are you in or around Virginia? Do you have a overhead console? Do you have a driver's side power seat?
Cause these are things in the build sheet I am seeing. Finding it tough to believe that a Police Version would have a power seat.
But what I am seeing in the build sheet I am looking at is that it looks like a fleet vehicle for Budget Rent A Car.

Yes it does have a power seat it does have an overhead council for glasses and so forth and it does have the EXT power switch although that is kind of falling through the dash. Yeah the other items I could not find either. And as I said it won't stay running that is as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it stops. It doesn't have rubber floors it has carpet and it's super clean as far as interior and exterior but I couldn't find anything more on police edition.

Is the check engine light on?
Wondering if you have a vacuum leak. I would check that first.
Then off the top of my head thinking the throttle body and IAC need to be cleaned.
Then thinking diagnose the condition of the IAC and TPS.
Sure Googling it will help in finding out how.
I am just guessing here though.

So you have one of these?

Just out of curiosity 3 switch or 4 switch bezel?
Now the falling out the dash makes wonder about something. The Ext Idle ups the idle from normal, about 700 RPM , to 1000 RPM when in neutral or park.
Even if you were to put the Jeep in gear with the switch on it would disengage on it own. I doubt this will do anything but I would disconnect it and see
what happens.
Now that switch is one of the key components in Police Version XJ's but not having the other stuff makes me wonder.
And some of the stuff that you do have I would not really expect to find on a Police Version but......
Simple fact is I sourced and put that switch in. Mine is not a Police Version XJ. LOL.
I am wonder if it being a Fleet Vehicle could have a bearing on having one or not though.

It has the switch. I decided for my first Jeep to go with another model that's running stronger. Well that stays running. Figure for my first Jeep I didn't want to potentially buy a lemon.
