ok so i have a CHEROKEE!!
but it is two wheel drive....
i have grown an emotional attachment to her and would rather not get another "jenny"..... that is four wheel drive ... but anyways would it be worth it to buy a lift and a locker? I would like to go have some fun in the mud and easy trails nothing to major some decent flexing so on.. not full on rock crawling hahaha Thank you!! If it really makes that much of a difference i can try to save for a 4x4 but would rather not hahaha Thanks again!

skip the lift and locker for right now.
Instead go on craigslist and find a used cherokee in poor shape for less than 700, go look at it, make an offer accordingly.
Make sure it has the things you want, like an np231 transfer case and a good hp d30 with the same gear as your rear, also if you dont have a chryco 8.25 rear, make sure the parts jeep you buy has that aswell. 97 + will have the 8.25 rear.
its easier to do the 2wd to 4x4 conversion when you have a complete parts jeep to swap everything from.
Then you can either part out and crush the spare jeep, after pillaging it for spares, or put it back together with your 2wd parts and try to resell it.
I wanted to do the 97 + door swap, the 97 + front end swap, the chryco 8.25 29 spline swap to my jeep, and I needed some misc interior parts etc. I went and found a 97 xj that was rough around the edges, drove it home for 375, pillaged it, and I plan on crushing it here within a month.

I would keep it, mine is also 2wd (was my mother's dd)and I have become attached to it and dont plan on selling it. I already got the 3" lift, now im saving for 31' tires and a locker for some light trails and mud nothing to extreme, just to have fun
Edit: and since you dont have space or know how to do the swap the best you can do is a locker and/or sell it and get a new 4x4

ohh but also... if your wanting to do rocks, ya kinda need 4wd... so i would listen to Mr. Blacksmith, because his advice to you are my EXACT plans, except the addition of a 2.5 to 4.0 swap as well...

I have 4x4 on my jeep but I rarely use it, I go out all day in 2 wheel drive with my open diff and street tires and have yet to get stuck. Just be aware of where your going and how you use the skinny pedal

Maybe look into getting a winch. There will eventually be a time when you will need something a little more than 2wd to get out of a situation on a trail

Make friends with people who do have the space and the resources to help you out. Two years ago I had my friends Ranger parked in my shop for 6 months (mostly bc he's a lazy SOB) while he tinkered away on it. Never minded much as he always brought over food and drink for us when he worked on it. Originally Posted by Dylan86cherokee
