play in rearend

96 cherokee. tranny is tight, splines are good on the yoke, ujoints are good and ring and pinion are in good shape also but there is still play in it. do u think this could be fixed by putting a new crush sleeve in it and if so any good tips on how to set backlash. C8.25 axle

As far as your problem, is it just rotational play? If so they are meant to have a little bit.

no when u let off the gas and they go back to accelerate it has a lot of slop in it. it kinda sounds like my ujoints are bad but i just pulled them apart and they are good as new

So what do you mean when you say play? How much play? Does the yolk turn freely or does it move up and down?
Saying that it has play doesn't really tell anyone what is going on in the differential.
