Unhappy plastic vs. steel grille

I recently went head on with Bambi, I won but now have a messed up front!
Worst damage is smashed grille, grille support and radiator.
My question is, when ordering a new grille I can choose the stock plastic/chrome one or a black steel one.
Anyone out there upgrade to the steel one and can tell me if it's stronger and worth the extra $$??

I don't have one but.. Just by thinking, would you rather be hit with a piece of plastic or piece of steel?

Edit: I'd rather have the steel one

uhhh yea was my thought to, but when lookin at the threads about the grille guards I started thinkin the damage by crushed (probably thin) steel might be worse getting mangled into radiator instead of just shattered plastic

Plastic. Steel will bend and puncture like you said. Plastic will just shatter and hit the ground.

www.rockauto.com has a plastic grill for your model year for $20.79.

Does that help make your decision?

I actually got a new grill for my 98 from them on a close-out special for $6.70! I couldn't believe it! So I ordered two of them...
