I'm contemplating dipping my 2000 XJ matte black. I was wondering if any of you guys/gals have done it and what you think about it in terms of application, removal, etc. I've done my rims and 1 4x4 Logo, but thats about it. Also I'm probably going to end up using the cans because I cant shell out 400 for the DIP-kit. Photos, opinions, advice, is appreciated!

I have done it. I used spray cans from Home Depot and am really happy with the results. Easy to do and easy to fix. I will post a picture tomorrow. No primer just a little light sanding, wipe off and spray. I used between 6 and 7 cans.

was contemplating it, but decided that i'll use something like monstaliner instead. i dipped my old honda, but i can't imagine how much it would get trashed by branches and such on the trail. i'd have to buy stock in the company to recoup the expenses of constantly touching it back up.. lol

The Earlex 3500 HVLP sprayer is around $130 and 2 gallons of pre-mixed (sprayable) flat black is $110 so that's $240.

Cans are fine for small areas like rocker sills or stripes but not for doing the entire car. It ends up looking like you spray painted it, even if you do everything right. I highly recommend using the sprayer if you're going to shoot the whole thing.

Edit: 2 gallons is equal to 23+ 11 oz. spray cans which cost around $8 each so that's $185 for cans.

I'm thinking about painting my flares, door trim, and bumper caps in black spray liner, how does it hold up to sun, trails, and washing?

plastidip comes right off. me and my friends tag each others cars with this stuff as a joke.
you'd have to put a thick coat on, but forget about going through a car wash, washing with a pressure washer, and as soon as you scratch through it once let the peeling begin!

Looks pretty good for a spray can job, thanks for the upload!

I found someone whos going to let me use their spray gun. I'll order the 2 gallons from DYC. Would 2 gallons be enough for the entire car?

Thats what they told me too. I just decided to go cheaper and get cans. Cans at Home Depot here are $6, so I painted mine for $47.

Yeah it would work for a street queen, The second a branch hit you get ready for it to begin peeling. I had my wheels on my jetta done and after a while it started coming of just from spinning so fast.

Looks like primer.
Expect this to reduce resale value by 30% or more.
Good thing its easy to remove.

Mines no street queen and I get out there in the sticks and a branch does get a hold and scrapes it's a heck of a lot cheaper to prep and fix. Pennies on the dollar.

So buying a can everytime you mess it up, is cheaper than buying buffing compound to get the scratches out
