So I went to a local junk yard to get a 8.25 to swap with my d35, guy told me its in good shape and got all checked out. So I got there and it looked rlly nice, brought it home and took the diff cover off. The gears were covered in rust and wouldnt spin. Took the center pin out, yoke spun but not the axle shafts so the bearings are rusted solid. I dont feel like dealing with something that needs more work then my d35 luckly I can bring it back and luckly I found a 8.25 out of a xj that was a dd up until a tree fell on it 3 weeks ago. Idk guess im stupid for not pulling the cover off it at the junkyard first but the guy said they checkd it so I assumed it was fine, sorry just venting.

That sucks...at least you can bring it back...Obviously the guy flat out lied that it was "checked out"...
It's amazing how some places treat the customers they depend on for their business...Especially when they have got to know that you're gonna find out they were bullcrapping you...Guess that's the way things are these days...you can't trust anyone anymore..

Pathetic. Hold a Twinky back there and bet he'd jump. People amaze me. It's like my friend who bought an engine online from a local JY. Said it was from a wrecked Mustang, but was still solid and ran when pulled. Pics looked good. Took it home and dropped the oil pan to change the gaskets, and there was nothing more than metal shavings all on the inside along with some pieces of 2 of the piston skirts.

Thats why, you should ALWAYS check sh** out yourself.
You should never go by someones word, when it involves your money.
Im glad you'll be able to bring back and swap it though.

I always go to the U-pull-it yards. That way, before you pull it, you know what condition its in too.
Sorry to derail, but was there any rhyme or reason as to what got an 8.25, and what got a D35? I have a 98 Sport w/out a tow package or anything, and it has an 8.25. I have a friend with a 98 Sport w/out a tow package that has a D35. I just don't get why models from the same powertrain/trim package got different rearends.

e.g. PO couldve swapped it into another Jeep, and put his the D35 underneathe that one.
Or it could come down to, what month it was built in the factory.
But Im putting my money on the first one, from a PO doing something.

How much sense does it take to grab the yoke and check the slop, and grab and axle and make sure the spiders turn or if its a posi-lock both turn.
Your ranting over your own stupidity in not checking the part on the scene before leaving with it.
I see a 50/50 problem there, 50% the yards for not doing the basics, and 50% yours for having your head up your **** and not doing the basics.
Be glad you can return it and move on.
