They cam with both but i believe the 8.25 was only used with tow package. Meaning you could get both but the dana 35 did not come with a tow package.

actually, i think they did... i checked the gear ratios by years... in 1999 only dana 35 had 3.73s.

Maybe I jumped the gun on saying he flat out lied....I guess it's possible there was a mixup and the guy made an honest mistake...

Problem is...It seems with lots of businesses.... "honest mistakes" are starting to become the norm instead of the exception....

I've had problems with getting the wrong stuff, broken stuff...and not just when it comes to vehicles.... and being told...."no problem, just bring it back"....Well it IS a "problem"...I didn't get what I friggin wanted/expected....and now have to waste more time to take it back to get what I wanted....if they really even HAVE the good/right one...Meanwhile dumbo at the counter hasn't moved since I was last there....So of course....to him....it wasn't a problem at all.....

Dont come on here and bash me. Sorry im not a pro junk picker like you and know everylittle thing to look for. This is suppost to be a professional business, I called the place 3 times just to insure it was the right one and was in good condition and he told me it all checked out good. The guy does this as a business so I wouldnt think he was just trying to pull a fast one on me.

The definiteve answer: If the XJ had ABS then it got the D35. It has nothing to do with the tow package. My XJ Limited was fully loaded, with tow package & a crap load of other stuff - plus ABS & a lovely D35. XJs with ABS always had a D35 rearend.
The years are a little unclear to me because I used to think that the 8.25 rear started with 96 XJ, but I know now that there are some several years older.

while i dont really agree whith you choice of words here, i do agree with your logic. i have learned in life, that you can trust no one. i would have checked it out myself. i pull the cover on any diff before i buy it.

OP....why just sit there and talk crap about th "fat***" behind the desk being lazy......did you think that maybe that cherokee you could see sitting back there had a d35?

i think these vent threads get people all pissy, and then they start arguing with eachother. now im pissed at your junk yard!!! j/k

Firstly,
drums typically don't rust up on a recently pulled parts.
If this is the case, that is the first red flag, and yes if they was rusted on I would have even more so demanded the cover be pulled for an inspection.

Least you could have done was come here and ask for a few tips. There would've been 50 replies giving you the advice needed to check the differential for issues. Not come on here and moan about stuff.

Maybe the yard did have an honest mistake and their nephew that pulls parts grabbed a core rear end, but still in all things used.

got one less than a month ago... sat with e brake pulled, and when they pulled the axle, the drums were rusted. the guy said that if he had to damage the drums while taking them off, he couldn't sell it as complete. brought it home, beat the drums off with a sledge hammer, and everything else works like a charm. and if it didn't, i'd just take it back and get another one. this is a junk yard man, not a farmers market. you don't get to talk their ears off for 5 hours to get a $20 part.

and you're still trying to defend your rudeness... have u ever heard the expression, treat others the way you want to be treated?
