Hey guys new to this forum. I have an 00 xj sport and was wondering what tire size for stock suspension you guys would recommend and why. I have two main choices. Either 255/70r15 or 235/75r15. I know 235s will work and i know 255s will rub at full lock. But i can put a washer in the steering stop. I just want to know if i will lose mpgs and power if i go with the 255s.

Don't think you'll lose significant mileage with 255s,might be able to tell a difference might not. I'd go ahead and try them and see what you think.

 

On stock suspension and rims, I'd go with the 235s, especially if you actually do any offroading. The 255s will rub quite a bit at turn under flex.

Sport w/ 235s on stock suspension.

 

I agree with the 235's for several reasons 1. clearance 2. better fuel mpg ever so slight but a little.

 

Do you wheel it? Are you open to fender trimming? If so Id remove the stock flares, trim the fender a lil and run some 31x10.5x15s

 

I'd go 30s with that setup so you have more flex.

 

I think losing a half and inch of travel is worth the lil extra clearance and the huge array of tires AT and MT offered in 31

 

wouldn't 30x9.50 tuck a lot better than 31x10.50?

 

235s with aggressive tread is what I would run. Still plenty of travel room for stock suspension and less stress on stock components.

 

Thanks all for the input. I think im just going to go with the 235s after reading the comments here and doing some research i think they will work well with my uses. Mostly a daily driver but does see some mild trails for hunting camps. Plus 235s are cheaper and i live in a snowy area where they love salt so will save some money for the body work it needs. On stock wheels either is gonna tuck. but that being said I can tuck 35s.

 

What size tires do y'all think my Jeep can handle it has 31s wanting to try and put 35s on it

 

without trimming and gears 31 is all you can fit and still drive it offroad. If it's show jeep maybe 32 or 33.

 

I have 30x9.5's on mine and they don't rub when I turn full lock and I haven't rubbed off road yet either but I haven't gone hard core off road either. I do like the looks of it, the tires fill up the wheel wells just right.

 

I'm going to mention this only because you didn't include in your post if auto or manual. I assume auto but if you have manual I can tell you there will be a fairly significant impact to driving even with 235s.
