I want to paint the rims on my XJ. Its a 90 and they are fairly heavily corroded. I want to paint them gunmetal grey or a similiar color but if anyone has pictures of these painted in any color it would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know exactly what these are called I think someone else called them "turbines".

i actually painted my stock wheels in a deep gunmetal color. the color on the wheel pairs nice with how the cherokee looks. i unfortunately had brake work done about 2 years ago, and the moron at the shop put on the old pads in the front, and they ground into the rotor, spewing all kinds of rust and crap on the driver side front wheel. never went to that shop again. need to hit them over again with the paint though, because i neglected the protective clear coat to finish them off.

Are they the same type as these? What kind of prep did you have to do? Anyway I did see an XJ the other day with gunmetal rims and thought it looked great. It was a newer 97-98 that was green and the rims wernt the same but I liked the color of the rims alot.

lol, yeah, ended up getting new pads and rotors, and installed them myself because i can't trust certain shops near me anymore. got a repair book and started doing everything myself after the brake incident happened.
my wheels are the steel wheels for my year (the 5 spoke wheel with the dimple/crease in the middle of each spoke). prep work is basically cleaning them, just like painting anything, get all the brake dust and grime off them. and of course making sure they are dry before you paint. i'd highly recommend also getting the finishing clear coat as well if you want to keep the paint from flaking off.
honestly, i like the style of rims you have. i think with that color it'll give it that badass 1970 look that just goes great with these boxy XJ's. it's a universal color as well that goes good with white, black, red, blue, or any color vehicle.

I really do like the shape of these rims just they are really messed up right now. Will probably paint them when I get new tires which will be somewhat soon as the current set is getting pretty close to bald.

I sand blasted, primed and painted my stock steel rims. They look great, and the paint seems to be sticking fine. It was enamel anti-run black rusoleum that I used.

this is as close as I can get to what your looking for. And they dont have the name for them either, I google searched it, nothing on the name. I just heard them ever called the turbines as well.
I sanded mine down, took forever, taped them off and primed them. ( check out my photo album) I will paint them to match my rig. Whenever I decide what color to do it!

Awesome I like those black ones Dan. DJ did you sand those rims by hand? I may have to try and paint the inside edge of the rim as well due to some corrosion. How would I go about doing that? Can I do it without removing the tire?

Sorry it was the my photoshop pic
