Paint Job

Paint shops are a funny thing. Youre going to spend a TON of money to get a "factory" paint job. My buddy has a Ford SuperDuty Crew Cab and he took it to a REPUTABLE painter who he knows personally from being in the business who owns a REAL paint garage and gets TONS of customers. He paid $5600 for his two-tone paint job and it was compete and total S**T! He fought with the guy for like 2 years and the dude finally took him to small claims court over it. They both lost: My buddy ended up having to pay like half of the original estimate because the judge said something along the lines of "I dont know anything about painting vehicle, but even I know this isnt a professional job." So in the end he paid like $2700 or something, then painted it himself with a driveway RustOleum job. It actually came out better than the shop did.
Long story short, even when you do your homework and take it to a reputable shop you can still have issues, and a "good" paint job is NEVER inexpensive. Research, research, research, and then talk to MANY previous customers. Look into it with your BBB and see if theyve had any complaints. NOBODY is join to show you their bad work or give you the names of their customers who werent happy.

If there's a Maaco near you, they're usually cheaper than most of the local custom shops and they do a good job. The big thing is to get at least three written estimates, have each shop spell out exactly what they're going to do for you, and then pick the one that you feel will do the best job. You can use the other estimates to negotiate price if the shop you choose is more expensive than the others.

Yeah, don't waste your money with the $300 Maaco stuff. I've seen them do some nice paintjobs, but they're more like $800.
If you want a cheap paintjob, look on craigslist. I've seen auto body and paint shops bartering for nearly anything.
