Even with the electric fan on you are still having problems with it overheating? My XJ (200K Miles with no maintenance) I have directly split in to my electric fans so that i have a switch on the dash to overide and manually turn the fan on but it will still work when it gets too hot, i can be in the trails with the fan turned on at idle and beating on it for 6+ hours and the temp is at just about 210. If i were to turn the fan off and let it come on by itself that is when it heats up to 230,240+ then starts cooling down but it would do that constantly so i wired the fan and have not had any problems since. On the road driving normally the guage like to sit just above 210 almost touching it but when stopped at a light for a minute or so it will start to climb a slight bit.

You may have a bad head gasket.

Not necessarily, but you would be experiencing unexplained coolant loss. I had a '92 Ford Aerostar that started running hot and mysteriously loosing it's coolant (no obvious leaks); eventually I bought this http://www.blockchek.com/ and made the unpleasant discovery that there was combustion gases present in the coolant (i.e. bad head gasket, cracked/warped head, block,etc...). About $45 at Napa, and a great addition to your tool kit.

If you suspect a bad gasket, I'd run this test 1st, otherwise you will be chasing your tail (ask me how I know) .

If you're lucky, it could just need a good cooling system flush, and/or a new thermostat.

That would save ripping it apart first for sure I'm going to go buy it and if its not the head or gasket ill just flush the system and get a new waterpump and therostat the only time I loose coolent is out of the overflow its boiling out when it gets hot

Hey Mine is doing the same thing, Idk what it is still.. but I replaced, Waterpump, thermostat, thermostat housing, serpentine belt, radiator cap, hoses, and claps and its still pouring water through the reservoir. I am going to replace the fan clutch and if that doesnt help im going to replace the radiator also.. any opinions on this?
