Default opinions on subs/amp setup

Hi guys new to the forums here. Ive been wanting to upgrade the audio in the truck for a little while now and came across a friend who has some 3 subs in a box and an amp which hes willing to sell. Being that i dont know much when it comes to this I was looking for a little insight. Opinions on whether this set up is good or even worth it and if so what it would be worth. Any help is appreciated.

That amp grossly underpowers the subs. Unless he is selling you the setup for dirt cheap, I wouldn't buy that setup because you'll need a new amp.

He said he wanted $250-300 for it all I was skeptical myself and couldn't find much reviews on the subs or amp which brought me here.

mutiny, thanks much for the quick response. I guess I'll keep trying to come up with a nice combo for myself. Mainly the reason I want to do an upgrade is because my left door speaker went out, I believe its because the common problem that most people have with the wiring through the door to the speaker, I figured if I'm going to start taking panels off Id rather replace the stock speakers with something a little better. Any advice on nice packages or setups that arent going to break the bank looking to spend around $300-400. I basically want some decent door speakers and a nice subwoofer setup nothing too crazy, I listen to a lot of rap, rock, dance/dubstep. Thanks again for the help guys I know i can do a search and grab ideas theres just so much out there its a bit overwhelming

1. upgrade your HU. Clarion and Alpine make nice ones
2. speakers + amp. Go to a store and listen to a bunch of different speakers. You ears are different than everyone else's so what sounds good to me may sound like pewp to you. You really only need the front two. If you really want rears for some reason, get some mids, no tweeters. You NEED to amp these. Most HUs can only put out 19wrms-ish.
3. sub. For your music style, I'd recommend a 12 in a sealed box. If you want it boomier, get a ported box. Ported boxes are much larger so your trunk room will be diminished significantly over a sealed box. I really like Infinity subs. MB quart makes some nice amps as well if you are on a budget.
Everything combined (assuming you build your own box) will run you about $1k. Sub and amp are going to be about 300. Speakers and amp will be closer to 400. HU will be about 250.

I've had POLK AUDIO speakers before and found them to sound great with enough power to them.

I have a Polk momo 12" sub. It is a good quality sub and hits pretty hard (granted I have yet to get a better amp so it's prob even better than that).

I just want something that will last and wont rattle after a month.
I was gonna run new wires and get a sony deck and four 4.5" polks for the doors
do the rear hatch when I have more money

and so I'm not thread jacking, to the OP I wouldnt buy those at all. but then again, I dont think I would ever buy subs
good luck doe!!
