Old and new
Quite a contrast. My XJ is parked a foot or more further back than the KL.

It is, I just know how much xj owners hate the KL. I don't like it either. Didn't want to start a bash-fest and have this thread deleted by mods.
I have a background in graphic design and visual arts. I do like contrast in general. I like Jeeps. And so this thread was born.
I agree with the masses, the KL is a huge departure from what Jeep is known for. Same goes for every single model aside from the Wrangler since 2001.

I won't hate on the contrast. Not a KL fan myself either, but I always like perspective photos that show "then and now."
I also am a fan of the Quadratec page showing all the Wranglers side-by-side

Like that JEEP XJ on the left.
The 'car' on the right is the latest in rice burner wannabe's, no thanks!
I will say one thing though,
Chrysler did resurrect the Challenger more or less back to its old '70s muscle car roots.

One thing that boggles me is the seeming total lack of off-road thought that went into its design. I feel like they made what type of vehicle sells the most these days and then used the Cherokee name as 'jewelry' to try to add back a feeling of off road prowes that was designed out of the KL due to market demands.
The front bumper is less than 4 inches off the ground on the one in the picture, I feel like at some level, some people will buy the KL because it says Cherokee on it and then think it can go out and be a capable trail rig. The base needed for that just isn't there. That's what bothers me about it. People will buy it and think that because it says Cherokee on it, that it will be a capable rig.
The meaning behind the name Cherokee is forever changed. My other least favorite part.
With all that said, keep in mind, for what the KL was designed to be, it shines.

is there another model of vehicle that has changed so much? Like is there a vehicle that looks so much different like the old and new cherokee do? I'm sure there is but can't think of any off the top of my head. You can park an old f150 next to a new one and see some resemblance. You can't do that with the KL imo.

does it though? I had said this in another thread, although it was pertaining to the new grands. But one of the head honchos at the local jeep dealership says the whole cherokee lineup from the grands to the regular cherokee are littered with issues. Its also the same as every other caravan type vehicle pit there. There's not much differentiation.

The xj has had its fair share of issues. I had a cracked 0331 head on mine. That's a pretty major flaw. Cherokee reliability comes from simplicity over design in my option.

Perhaps I should have added "when worked as designed, they shine for what they were built for."
