ok, perplexed about starter problem
Hi all,
First let me say that I have searched, and found good advice in previous posts, but nothing has worked yet.
The problem is my 94 XJ sport 4,0 won't turn over, it started getting sluggish , and then refuses to spin at all. I have had the battery tested, checked the following, connections, NSS. turned on the lights, and turned the key (the did not dim).
My question is, is there anything else you would recommend I do?, I plan to jump the solenoid in the morning, but the starter is only a little over a year old.
Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated, and as I said I did do a past post search.
Thanks in advance!

If everything is good like you said, it sounds like your starter is dieing. Pull one cheap from a jy and throw it on.

If I read it correctly, you turn the key and nothing? No 'click' from the solenoid? If you hot wire it (screw driver across the solenoid) and it turns over like it should, you might check the ignition switch. Not the key cylinder, the actual switch linkage. Good luck!
After checking the terminals again I did the screwdriver trick, and still nothing but a click, I replaced the starter(again) and it is back up, and running now,
Now I'm wondering what would cause it to go through starters like that, I am fairly sure the first one I replaced was the original, so that is just maintenance, but what are the chances that I got a bad starter from the parts store?
