Mine does the same thing, it could be an issue with the line getting primed during start-up or it just might be a normal thing with the gauge taking time to register pressure in the line.

It's normal, it's cold. I use 20W 60 oil and it takes from 6 to 8 seconds to have pressure.

Lifter tap before they get a running supply of oil to them. how many miles on the engine?

Yeah, but a cold engine still shouldn't have lifter tap at start-up

Mine has lifter tap and low end knock that's why i use 20w60 oil, everything goes away when i get pressure. if i use 10w40 there is no lifter tap but the low end knock doesn't go away and the oil press goes down when hot.

I got the same thing going on. When i First start my Jeep its pretty low but when i start moving it goes up to 40 psi or so but when i stop at the light or stop sign it can drop all the way down to like 10 or 20 psi. Is this normal also.

I drive a brand new half ton chevy for company vehicle and i can start it every morning in 20 degree weather and it has 2-3 seconds of lifter tap before the oil gets up to the top end. Pretty typical scenario in cold weather, especially if you havent started the engine for along time. Lifters bleed down and oil drains down to the pan.

Sounds like you have worn rod bearings and that your lifters have seen a full life
