Oil pressure Issues
Hello all,
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ with the 4.0, yesterday, I was driving and the oil prssure gage dropped to zero psi and the check gages light came on, I was driving about 40 mph when this happened. I pulled over, shifted it to neutral reved it to about 2500 rpm and oil pressure kick up to about 40psi. The oil pressure is normal, but when warm or at idle pressure drops to zero. Any Ideas about what this could be...any help would be greatful.

I changed the oil about 2,000 miles ago, again the pressure is fine until it gets warm and I stop the vehicle. A sledge hammer would work but I love the damn thing too much for that.

My daughter's 2000 Grand Cherokee did the same thing a few weeks ago. She was scared s***less. I changed the oil pressure sending unit and it went back to normal. It's pretty common.
Thanks for the reply, yes I now it is fairly common, so common in fact that there should be a recall on this problem. I am just hoping a new sending unit/oil change will fix this, it only has 112,000 miles on it...brand new.
