Default OEM roof rack

my roof rack on my 1996 jeep cherokee has the buttons broken so fixing this is very difficult. Am I the only one with the broken buttons on an OEM rack?? Has anybody found a fix for this?????

When I repainted my roof rack I couldn't get the buttons to work good. I was using the back end of a screwdriver and putting pressure on it. They're pretty hard to get loose, but you can get them off.
