Get an extraction strap, it flexes and absorbs energy during the pull, then acts like a rubber band and releases the energy to pull out. Doesn't shock things which leads to breakage. Tow straps are hard shocking during a pull out and will trend towards more broken parts, those parts can fly about! A 3 inch strap by 20 feet is a good all round usefull lenght. Extractions cost more than towl straps. You can always mate your extraction strap with the tow strap for more length. Use straps with loop ends, things like buckles and hooks on the end of a flying strap are not good.

save yourself the trouble and get a bubba rope. www.bubbarope.com.
yes it'll be a bit pricey BUT it will pay for itself in no time. ive broken a couple straps in the trail and after breaking my last two one night i was there all night trying to figure out how to get my XJ unstuck. with the bubba rope i got, one jerk and she's out and they got a breaking strength of like 24,000 lbs. WAY more than youll ever need. look them up..

Im kind of old school and picked up one of my grandpa's old hay tie down strap(4" wide) and folded it over so it had a loop and had it sewed REAL GOOD and it will pull anything i ever needed out(including 4x4 tractors). Kind of an old farmer trick to pull out tractors, and its way cheaper than any tow strap that size on the market. Has a nice spring to it and came in handy many many many times And i definatly agree with the above post NEVER get a tow rope with hooks on it i've seen MANY windows get broken out and personaly almost had my face taken off by one coming unhooked under pressure.

I use 3 inch by 30 foot straps, I carry two in my rig they are good for 30,000 lbs. I also carry a 12 foot 3 inch tree strap. I carry a couple of 12 inch long ash axe handle pieces to connect them so I don't have d-rings flying around.
I also clean and inspect them after I use them so I'm not using crap equipment.

Just curious, how much you spend on all of that?

I had the broken axe handle so it was free. I paid 33.00 each for the tow straps, and 27.00 for the tree strap. Total for the three straps 93.00.
I also have a winch on both my trail rigs, and carry two d-rings in each rig.

I've had mine for about three years, so I think they probably cost more now, most everything does.
Here is one that is less than 65.00. I found it in about 2 minutes so if you really searched you could more than likely find one cheaper, Also if you wanted you could get a 2 inch wide by 30 foot strap that would handle your light Cherokee for 30.00 plus shipping.

Well i just checked ebay, didnt much waste my time searching for it...but my tow rope's just getting a little old, and a 2" wont be enough i use it for more than towing my jeep, we use it on the farm to pull tractors around also, but thanks for that input.
