Default Newbie with newbie questions!

**I'm sure i posted this is another thread but i can't find it! Proper amatuer here! so I posted it again if that's ok!

Hi, I'm a newbie here and this is my first post!
I bought a 97 xj (4.0) back in December and absolutely love it. However today was the first time I actually got the chance to give it a deep clean inside and out. 3 hours later she's looking good! However I did spot a couple of things which I hoped you'd be able to shed some light on...

1. Either side of the rear hatch are rubber grommets (for lack of a better word) which are almost completely perished. To me they look adjustable and presumably they hold the boot in position when closed? The boot doesn't rattle though. Does anyone know what they're called so I can order a couple of replacements? None of the random words I googled gave me the right part!

2. The other thing I noticed was a reasonable amount of corrosion on the passenger seat inner rear mount (where the seat bolts to the floor). Is this a common thing? Or do I have a larger issue here that needs addressing, maybe a leak or an issue underneath? I'll have to remove the carpet to get it sorted.

She's only done 75k and runs sweet. Already on my to-do list is new shocks/springs, brakes all round (and ABS sensors because it regularly kicks in thinking I've locked up when I haven't - I think a result of it doing a lot of sitting around over the last 5 years), wheel alignment and all terrain tyres. I knew about these when I bought it...

Feel free to give me your thoughts on any of the above.

Thanks in advance!
Leo

Just saw from your other post that Ralph found what you needed so I deleted my link to them.

Welcome!

For tires, take a look at the Kumho AT51. Quite a few members here rave about them. I just put a set of their all-season tires on my family van (a Sienna) and I am very happy with them.

You may be able to get away with removing the seat and looking through the hole in the carpet with a light to see what it looks like underneath. Hopefully its good to go under there and its just surface rust on the bracket.

Can you put up a pic of the rear hatch rubber pieces you are talking about?

Yea, will take a look at the rust over the next few months.

RE the rear hatch rubbers, a member found them for me - they're called dormans.

I just put them on my 2002 Grand, and I like them! They handle much better than my previous tires, both on the grand and on my XJs. I've usually run General AT Grabbers, and those are a good tire, but I find them a bit squirrelly in snow. I haven't run the AT51s in snow yet, but I did drive the family van with Kumhos in snow and was very impressed.

Dorman is a brand name. They make a lot of Jeep parts. Usually decent, but never great.

I have no idea what that part is called.

Rubber tailgate stop.

I bought a set of Dormans, work great, stopped the gate from rattling. Or, should I say the “boot”...
