I am looking at buying this Winch
Amazon.com: Superwinch 1510200 LP10000 Series Winch: Automotive Amazon.com: Superwinch 1510200 LP10000 Series Winch: Automotive
It comes with a 2 year warranty and its Superwinch so it has a good rep. Anyway what are some of the accessories would I need to be probably equipped to use a winch. Say tie around a tree and pull myself out. Online it says do not tie winch to itself. I already have the bumper its going to go on.

I wouldn't buy it for a 3000 lb Cherokee. It is going to be heavy with 85 foot of 3/8s cable on it. If you have a winch that is rated for two times your vehicle weight that is plenty. So I would go for a 8000 lb - 9500 lb winch with at least 100 feet of cable or better yet 100 feet of synthetic rope. You can get a winch from Rough Country or Smittybuilt for around $300 that will be more than enough for a light rig like the Cherokee. I have a Warn 6000 lb winch that I use on my Flat Fender CJ2A that would work on my Cherokee, but I made a trade for a Warn HS9500I so I'll leave the 6000 pounder on the CJ. Basically the 10000 lb winch is over kill for the Cherokee.

i just ordered a 10,000lb smittybilt for my xj on 33's. Yes its over kill and i probably would have been okay with the 8,000 but i like to always be more prepared than seems needed. So say next time i'm out wheeling with my buddy in his fullsize bronco on 38's i would have any trouble recovering him as well.

now on to the things you will want to have to acompany your winch. A tree saver strap, a snach block(block used to change direction or double pulling power) something to lay over the cable while winching( alot of people make something for this or you can just use a heavy coat or something of that nature) and its never a bad idea to have a ****** strap as well.

Yea, def. get one more d-ring then you think you need. It never fails I always seem to need more than I have when on the trail sometimes. Always good to be the guy that has an extra when the other guy forgot his too.

Keep a chain in the garage too, at least a short one... a winch can also come in handy for yard work! (Pulled 15 bushes out of a neighbor's yard in 2 hours, would have taken days otherwise, and got a nice $50 from it!) Would defiantly recommend synthetic, worth it!

Don't forget a good pair of leather gloves especially if you will be using steel cable.

You might consider one of these kits...

Thanks for all your guys help and the reason I wan't a 10000lb is I am the only person that has a Jeep. Everyone one of my friends went with a F150 Dodge ram 1500 or Chevy 1500. Plus that winch on amazon seemed to be the best price for the warranty strength and it included the roller fairlane. Also 85 ft that still pretty far reach. Forgot to add from the begging that the bumper I got limited me to 10" x 4.5" bolt pattern. Ill take a pic after I get the lift bumper and winch on.

Get the Rugged Ridge winch recovery kit...it is nicer than smittybilts. Also, I'd look at smittybilts new water proof 8 or 10k winch. Smittybilt makes a good winch, and, the nice thing about it, other than price, is that any 4WP can get you any one of the 80+ parts that go into building that winch if you ever need to repair it.

You shouldn't be buying a winch that matches your friends rigs. I've wheeled with guys running 40 & 42s on their rigs that weigh over 8000 lbs. For me to pull them out of the mud or snow when they are setting on the frame it would more than likely rip my bumper off, or tear my unit-body.
Build your own recovery kit. I did my own and saved about 50%.

I would second this. You could put a 25K# 24V military winch on your rig if you wanted. The only thing that's going to do though is make it really easy to rip your rig apart. Typically you pull a lighter vehicle out with a heavier one, not pulling the heavier out with the lighter one.

On a side note, what's the reasoning for putting a damper on the winch line? Seems to me if something gives and the cable goes flying, a jacket or something isn't going to do much good.

Surprisingly the coat/heavy object does absorb a lot of the kinetic energy released from the cable breaking. Every little bit helps, but the coat on the cable does NOT mean you can stand next to it by any means. Always get back when doing a pull no matter the size.
