Default New guy, naive questions

I just got a 2000 cherokee sport. 4door 4wd 4.0 auto. Not sure what the letter designations apply. Have previously owned two cj's and know what that means . Lost after that.

Sport is generally a base model - or it was in the UK - but that should just mean less to go wrong

If your XJ is factory, you have a low pinion Dana 30 front axle. More than likely, you have a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle or, even more so if you have ABS, a Dana 35.

What does your transfer case shifter read? If it's just 2H, 4H, N, 4L it's a NP231. If there is a 4 Wheel Full Time setting, it's a NP242.

Welcome and judging by your username, you have a Subaru. High five.

Np231. Wow, thanks for the immediate responses. How about engine turns over with a grunt, starts, and in cold weather the volt meter reads low- 9 or10 volts and after a minute will jump up to 14ish.

What's your cca? If it starts I wouldn't worry about it. It's just the weather taking its effects on your battery

CVS is 750. Does not act like battery, more like starter slowing down turning over.
