Need your opinions!
Soo i went to this public auto auction viewing thing today
and they have a almost mint 01 cherokee sport.
Power windows and locks, 89k miles, 4.0l ice cold Ac, the interior is
pretty much perfect, i ran it in park for awile and it seems to run real
nice, but when i shifted it into 4wL it seemed to pop back out, when i hold the shifter back, the part time would stay on, and when i let go, it would pop back a little and the part time light would go out...i did put it in drive, and it shifted real smooth, and in reverse. i plan to bid on it, what the highest i should go?

I think the fix is fairly cheap, here is a link to the website with the fix. Not sure on your price? But good luck!

Plan on the bidding to go over 4 grand. You'll be competing against used car dealers and other folks with the money needed to buy clean vehicles. Don't get your hopes up, good luck.
I have been to a lot of auctions when I was looking for my rig. Used up XJs were still getting up to 2 grand, and clean rigs with low miles went for a butt load of money. In my area there were a lot of Russians in attendance that would out bid everybody just to show off.

Exactly, watch out for the bidding to go higher then your expected. Auto Auctions can be rigged too. they have people bidding in the auction against you who work for them. because when a car goes into an auction they put a set price on it. if it doesnt make that price they hold it till the next auction. they are shiesty like that. depends on who the auctions threw though. i mean ive seen sweet ride go for $400, but then ive also seen people get rapped on crappy vehicles. Remember you have to pay taxes as well and transfer the title as soon as you get the vehicle so add that into your budget when you get it. so say you buy the xj for $700 add another $200 or so on top of your purchase

Home from the auction, i dident get the jeep =/ it sold for 4900, we stoped at 3500 but there was also a 95 Cherokee sport 2wd 4.0l with 79k miles and it had a bad engine knock, gear oil leaking out of the left side of the axle, when i kicked on the AC, it dident blow cold, and the compressor was making a weird noise, but there interior... it was MINT, and it sold for 2450!!!
but we did pick up 3 things, a 99 lincon towncar with 143k for 700 bucks,
a 97 chevy blazer 4wd with 168k for 1100, and a 95 ford Taurus with 104k for 950. BUT we where not able to test drive, and the blazer seems to start out in 2nd gear, it wouldent even drive up my tilt trailer, luckly the 4wd worked, and it drove up. all and all, a good day, i had fun too haha.

i'm not sure if that 01 would have been worth 5 grand in an auction though. i would have thought they don't go for much in public auctions. you probably won't get much more than that for it out in the street. it might have low miles, but i'm sure all of those wires and plastics have seen better days.
