Hey guys! I'm new to this site. I just got a 1999 Jeep Cherokee last month. Im very excited. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a lift, and what else I would need to go with it as in shocks and what not. It's all stock so I guess thats the best place to start off right? Thanks a bunch for your time!

Yeah, Im with the previous post. It all depends how much you want to spend, how high you want to go, and do you want to maintain a decent ride quality.
If you want it be bad off road and dont care about on road performance that much go with a big lift like this guy. But if your looking to give it a better stance and look but want it to maintain ride quality, i recommend the Rustys 3 inch kit. Its fairly inexpensive ($270 plus shipping) and comes with everything you need to install. no extras. This is what I have on mine and my ride quality actually improved believe it or not. I have 265-75-16 (31s) on mine and it rides great!

I was thinking 2 inches or so. Nothing to bad ***. I just want to be able to get around up here in the coal region. Want to stay modest, keep it comfortable you know? As for price, I'd say around 300 or so. I was looking up different kits. But I've been told if you do the suspension you should do the shocks too. Is that true?

Oh and yes this my dd. But rlewi09 I looked at your pictures and five inches is to much for this girl to handle. Your tires are huge! Do I need to get different tires and rims if I do a 2 inch lift?

With 2 inches you don't need new shocks, I know people w/3" and stock shocks and they work great. some will say different, but if you're doin a 2" you'll be fine with your stock shocks.
Tires and wheels are personal preference, with the more lift you get, the smaller/dinky the tires will look.
For 300 you can get a lot, especially if you're doin the work yourself, I got my 3.5 inches for $100, granted it was all from the local Junk Yard that had a couple of poor Cash for Clunker XJ's in there. Got skyjacker lift coils, Lower control arms, and bought some s10 leaf springs to build my bastard pack, then just decided to buy the already made pack to be lazy. then I decided to get new shocks (another $100), because it felt like I was floating on air. Got my wheels and tires from a guy for $75. You can find great deals if you are patient .

How much was the already made pack? I'm going to try to do it myself. I looked up some info and it doesn't look hard. What do you mean you felt like you were floating on air? That confused me a bit. Thought a smooth ride is what you'd want. So I should be able to get something decent for 300 your saying? I just want to make sure I don't need anything else before I commit myself to it.

The already made pack was the same price as just the regular leaf springs, prices vary from yard to yard, at my local yard leaf springs run for $10 a pack after you put in the work to pull them, for them to pull them its an extra 20 per pack. Either way I haven't heard of anywhere else selling them for this price, I think i'm lucky to have this yard here. Anyways, finding an already built pack is hard to do, so if you start looking for one, good luck, it will probably be easier to build your own.
As far as my "floating on air" comment, what i meant is that my shocks were entirely shot, I'd hit a bump and feel it for the next 5 seconds or so. I have a 93 cherokee so its a little older than yours, your shocks are probably still in good condition.
You can definitely get something decent for $300 that includes new shocks if you want to. I'm pretty confident in saying that with 2 inches you shouldn't need to do anything else. going 3 or above on a 97+ cherokee you start to get vibes on the freeway, I've never heard of someone getting vibes at 2". BUT I would still study up a little more, ask some of the other guys on here.

We actually have a yard near by me. I've never gone to it but I guess it really wouldn't hurt. Yeah I don't have any problems with vibrations or anything. She looks pretty good under there. It was a one owner vehicle so I got lucky. Thanks for the info! wish me luck

good luck. and if you're really only going to do 2 inches this looks like a pretty good deal to me. I haven't seen this kit before, but it will lift you front and back they say 2" for a total of $82 including shipping

Wow that is pretty good. Thanks for the info. Ha! There's four more days for the bid to end too so that gives me plenty of time to take a look around. Thanks a bunch

Haven't tried it, but you don't live that far from me. I'm up in White Haven, Pa. I am putting together a "Frankenlift". I.E.- Leaf springs from here, shocks from there, brake lines from there yadda yadda yadda.
Up from you in Hazelton, Pa is Harrys U Pull it. Its Huge. WeGotUsed.com

Yeah, I was thinking of going there but I've a virgin to jeeps and havent really played around with one before. Where exactly is white haven? Maybe we can get together and take a trip to Harry's. At least then I'd know I was pulling the right parts. Do you know of any other yards around that maybe a good idea to look at?
